Cherry trees have a significant place in Seattle’s history and culture. And that’s why we are introducing Seattle’s inaugural cherry blossom run for 2019, to further celebrate and commemorate the gift of cherry trees.
The city of Seattle bought 34 cherry trees from Japan in 1912 and were planted in the Washington Arboretum. However in 1960 30 of them were transferred to the center of the University of Washington campus.
If you wish to join the celebration of Seattle’s cherry tree blossom in a fun and active way then come race the bloom! You can sign up for the Cherry Blossom 5K Run/Walk or 10K here. All proceeds benefit the Washington Arboretum Foundation.
